Why doesn't Hollywood make a movie of the account of David and Saul (and no, the 1964 version doesn't count)? Well, I know why they won't, but they should. I am almost finished with it in my devotional and it is really striking. It reads like a suspense/action novel. But what sets it apart are the incredible, gritty details. For example, 1 Samuel 27: 10-11 (emphasis mine):
When Achish asked, "Where did you go raiding today?" David would say, "Against the Negev of Judah" or "Against the Negev of Jerahmeel" or "Against the Negev of the Kenites." He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, "They might inform on us and say, 'This is what David did.'" And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory. Most people don't remember David that way. And I want to see it in a movie.
